An annual staple of any dance studio, ‘The Recital’, conjures fond images of childhood for many. It is a rite of passage for thousands of youngsters, a chance to shine in front of family and friends that they anticipate with nervous excitement.

The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year’s hard work, dedication, and progress.

A big part of the performing arts training process includes learning through performance. The experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Although performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in the performing arts, they also contribute to student’s success in other activities. That onstage experience can result in better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future job opportunities. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the student develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best end result.

  • Recital is held each year in May.
  • Recital is optional for recreational students, but mandatory for Company Members.
  • The office must know by January 1st if a student will NOT be participating in recital.
  • If the office is not notified regarding recital, it is assumed that a student will be participating in the recital.
  • All students will be required to attend all rehearsals designated for the show(s) they are performing in.
  • Professional videos will be made of the shows and may be purchased.
  • Professional pictures will be taken and available for purchase of all students interested, including class photos.

Recital Fee

All students are required to pay a $40 non-refundable recital fee ($50 for a family of dancers). This fee is due no later than April 1st, and will cover the cost of the theater, props, programs, etc. A late charge of $5.00 will be charged for any payments not received by the 5th business day of April.

The recital fee is in lieu of tickets. This allows students to invite any number of guests to the recital at no cost to them and without the hassle of tickets.

We spend many hours determining the correct costumes for each class and we try to keep the cost as low as possible. Costumes are always age-appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Costumes are chosen by the teacher/choreographer. Only the teacher and studio owners have final approval of the costumes. Students will need one costume for each class they train in. Costumes include all accessories (hats, gloves, etc.), but not tights or shoes, but specific requirements will be specified.

  • In recent years, the costume fee has ranged from about $40 to $60.

A non-refundable costume fee will be due no later than the end of February. A late charge of $5 will be charged for any payments not received by the March 5th.

  • You will be notified in January as to the cost of the costume for each of your student’s classes.
  • Upon receipt, costumes must be tried on immediately for fit and returned within 10 days to the studio office so that an exchange can be made.

Class Visitation

MGM welcomes parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends to observe all classes from the parent lounges. We ask that parents, siblings, grandparents and friends do not enter the dance rooms unless invited. There will be an open house in December (usually the week before Christmas break) where visitors can view a class from inside the studio.

Code of Conduct

  • Students are expected to be well-behaved, and to show respect and courtesy to their teachers, as well as classmates and parents.
  • Students will be dismissed from class for unreasonable behavior or excessive absenteeism. There will be no tuition reimbursement for such occasions.
  • DO NOT BE TARDY! If the studio door is closed and the students are inside, you are late! We ask that you please wait outside the door until the instructor invites tardy students in. This may be as long as 15 minutes before there is a break in the action. Being tardy makes it very difficult for our instructors to start their classes on time and causes a disruption for the students who are already in class. This is especially important in our youngest classes where it is difficult to get students back on track.
  • Please do not enter or disrupt other classes that are in progress. This applies to parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends. Should you need something from the dance room, please ask Christy or Laura to retrieve it for you. Should you need to retrieve a child early from class, please be respectful and inform the teacher and/or the office that your child will need to leave early and either the teacher will send the student(s) our or Christy or Laura will retrieve them for you.
  • Students may sit and do homework between classes. Please do not enter or disrupt other classes that are in progress.
  • Students are not permitted to have cell phones in classrooms at any time.
  • Students are not permitted to touch the stereo equipment unless asked by a teacher or one of the studio owners.
  • Students are not permitted behind the desk in the office or behind the front counter in the lobby for any reason.
  • Parents are expected to up hold the Code of Conduct for themselves as well as make sure their student(s) uphold the code of conduct.

Disruptive or abusive behavior from students or parents will be addressed with possible dismissal from MGM Studio of the Dance.

Teacher biographies are available for review on the website. If a parent needs to speak to a teacher for any reason, please do so by calling the studio and leaving a message, e-mail or by setting up an appointment. Teachers have very tight back-to-back teaching schedules and cannot be interrupted or be held up between classes. The teachers will be more than happy to return your call or meet with you at the earliest convenience.

Our monthly newsletter is filled with information about upcoming events, fees due, closings, etc. The newsletter can be found on this website under the About MGM tab and is also emailed to parents. If you do not have an e-mail address on file or have not been receiving the newsletters please notify the office.
